Going to Canary Wharf during the weekend is like entering a completely different world. Normally these streets would be crawling with suits and tailleurs rushing somewhere to a meeting, quickly grabbing a salad box or catching up for a beer during the happy hour before they go back to their desks. But on Saturdays and Sundays this side of London is peaceful, silent and full of novelty.
Today we’ve visited one of the latest openings, Notes. Is it a coffee shop, is it a bar? Well, I guess it depends on the time of the day or what you are craving. They offer a wide selection of very good quality coffees and teas, which can definitely satisfy all likings. I finally tried the matcha latte – different is the only adjective that comes to mind. The place is welcoming, the the stools are comfy and the radio plays just our kind of music. We even decided to go all the way, bring our laptops and be geeks together. There’s a first time for everything.
Two flat whites, a matcha latte, a cortado and a brownie later we left to visit the roof garden two floors up. Apparently a tiny Japanese maple is growing there! Shame we couldn’t find it. The place will be soon full of new restaurants and bars and in the next few months it’ll probably become a new hot spot for Canary Wharf. But until then we’ll enjoy the quiet times and cosy aromas.
